How to Encourage Others

One of the most effective ways to encourage others is to touch them in a physical way. Of course, it goes without being said that it must be an appropriate touch.

A simple touch can convey an incredible sense of love, affirmation and acceptance to a hurting person--child or an adult.

James Merritt explains the merits of the 'touching study' that was done at UCLA several years ago. He found that "to maintain physical and emotional health, men and women need eight to ten touches each day."

A meaningful touch was defined as a gentle tap, stroke, kiss, or hug, given by a significant other such as a husband, wife, parent, or close friend.

Truitt Cathey says, "how do you identify someone who needs encouragement? That person is breathing."

Who can you encourage by your touch today?
