Encouragement for Children: Will Ferrell Style

Are you one of the 10 million who listened to the little girl demanding money from Will Ferrell? Did you think it funny or did you cringe as the two year toddler screamed obscenities at Will Ferrell? Personally I thought it heartbreaking to hear her say 'come mommy' as she walked away.

Her mother was close by. Her mother stood by and probably prodded those words out of her mouth, set her up to be laughed at by the world. Professionals and many people have weighed in from "it will not harm her" to horror over an "abusive manipulation" for money and fame. Yet I've seen no one admit they would let their child be exposed to that charade for any reason.

Would you gamble with your child's life? No one knows the long-term effect it will have on her...

Here's what we do know. Research shows the way a child thinks of herself later on is influenced by the way adults interact and talk to that child early on in life. They need lots of encouragement, affirmations and praise so they can think rationally, be creative, learn courage, be successsful and have self-esteem. 'An encouraged child can do amazing things' is the slogan for Festival of Children Foundation. It's true.

Life is tough and kids grow up fast. Our future depends on them. Do you want to wonder, 'did I say the right words to them, do the right things for them' as they leave your home to make their way in the world? I'd rather go with the sure thing.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN A MOMENT AND A FEW ENCOURAGING WORDS CAN HAVE AN IMPACT ON A CHILD'S LIFE.
