Encouragement of Words

Words hurt, words crush the spirit, words scar the soul. Who else cringes every time we hear the words spoken by Alec Baldwin to his daughter?

Think about your own life...unless you have experienced some form of violence, probably the worst suffering has come from words used cruelly. Words cut like a sharp blade deep to our insecurities and the painful places we hide inside.

Who else cringes when you hear the words spoken by Rosie O'Donnell, especially when she spouted that 'we all curse at our children' and the audience clapped? Do they understand what words can do to quench a child's spirit forever? Kids need lots and lots of encouragement, affirmations and praise, just like adults do, only more.

"A careless word may kindle strife, a cruel word may wreck a life, a timely word may level stress, a loving word may heal and bless." (unknown quote)

For the sake of the children, help us remember these words.

Kay - Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving your kind words. I love the theme of your blog, and even more so, the theme you have chosen for your life. To lift one another with our words and actions is a powerful gift and responsibility. This has been a tough week for my kids as the schedule has been full of extra activities and responsibilities. Your post is a good reminder that hurried, "overstuffed" and stressed out lives are no excuse for short and angry words to find their ways in conversations with our kids.
